Chisinau hosts Youth Summit “Longing for Roots”

The Youth Summit “Longing for Roots” is held in Chisinau during September 1-3. According to the Federation of Young Bessarabians in Romania, the event is designed to motivate the young people to return home.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, the Federation’s chairman Cristin Murafa said the event came as a need to motivate the young people to return to the Republic of Moldova. “Through the agency of our “Fair of Universities of Romania”, we make effort to help the young people who want to continue their studies in Romania, to inform them about all the admission processes and to help them integrate into the university space. Through the agency of this project, we want to bring them home as there are a lot of young people who study in Romania and there are even more young people who already started a family and settled there,” stated Cristin Murafa.

He noted that an increasing number of young people have returned home in the recent past. They work for a public institutions or a private company, start a business and this gladdens a lot. “That’s why, together with our mates, we chose this title “Longing for Roots” so as to sensitize our young people this way. Our event this year is financed by the Department for the Relationship with the Republic of Moldova, which is our main partner in Romania – DRRM for short. It is a department that forms part of the Government of Romania,” said Cristin Murafa.

About 100 people are expected to take part in the summit, including 80 young people and 20 representatives of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, private companies, NGOs that work with young people, and opinion leaders. There will be held panel discussions and workshops. Among the main themes are “Role of young people in the process of joining the EU by the Republic of Moldova” and “Future of work in the Republic of Moldova”.
