Chisinau turned into an open-air gallery for a week. More than 100 works by Moldovan artists are presented as part of the "Moldova Art Week" (MAW) project. The event is organized by the advertising agency TrendSetter and reveals a new way of interacting with art in the urban space, IPN reports.
Artists' works are exhibited on billboards, LED screens, city lights and other urban formats in the busiest locations in the city. At the same time, MAW also includes an audio component, through the "Exhibition on the Radio" project, with radio stories about the exhibited works.
"Those who work in advertising are slightly art persons as well. The idea of launching such a project had been considered in our team for a long time. We wanted to show what it means when art merges with high technology and urban space", said Andrei Jicol, the agency’s founder.
The event highlights art as a fundamental right, not a privilege, and promotes unfettered access to culture. Not only young local artists are promoted, but also cooperation between the authorities, the artistic community and the business community.
Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan noted the importance of the partnership. "Culture must develop based on three pillars: authorities, the artistic community and the business community. Without the involvement of business in cultural life, we cannot realize the creative potential of the Republic of Moldova."
Irina Grechuhina, a nationally and internationally renowned artist, participates for the first time in such an event and said, in the thematic press conference, that, for her, it is an important step in the integration and socialization of the inhabitants of the capital city.
For his part, artist Vasile Sitar stressed that an open-air exhibition hall meant to make the people happy was made available in Chisinau these days.
On Thursday, the public is expected to visit Constantin Brâncuși Exhibitions Center. "Moldova Art Week" will culminate with a Sunday evening at Artcore.
