Chisinau hosted America Days

The America Days in Chisinau took place on May 18. In the Info Point zone, the visitors received a pass with the activities they had to perform and those who reached the final could taste free American dishes presented by the organizers. Information about the projects financed with the support of the American people was disseminated at a number of tents. Among the invitees was Prime Minister Dorin Recean, IPN reports.

“Indisputably, the United States, through its support and assistance programs, is present in absolutely any sector of the social, economic, institutional life of the Republic of Moldova. I want to thank the American people and the U.S. Government for this assistance. I’m very glad that we have this friendship that should make the word better and more united,” stated Premier Recean.

U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent Logsdon said the America Days aim to present a small part of the culture of the U.S. “We are glad to share American food, music, sports and films with you. Since Moldova declared its independence, the United States has invested over US$2 billion to help the Moldovans build a democratic, prosperous and safe future. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is an unprecedented challenge, while the European integration is a major opportunity for Moldova and we are here to help you in all possible ways,” stated the diplomat.

Valeria Butorina, a probationer at the Chisinau branch of the National Center for State Courts, spoke about the initiative to design the course on legal research, writing and reasoning for all the faculties of law of the Republic of Moldova. The project was launched in 2021 with the support of the Office of Criminal Justice of the U.S. Department of State. In the academic year 2022-2023, the course is taught at the Moldova State University, the Balti State University “Alecu Russo”, the Free International University of Moldova, the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, the Academy “Ștefan cel Mare”. “In lectures, the students of the faculties of law develop legal research, writing and reasoning skills. For example, at the USM this course is an optional discipline divided into semesters. It is not an integral course mandatory for all those who chose the legal research, writing and reasoning discipline. They acquire not only theoretical, but also practical knowledge,” stated Valeria Butorina.

The American Councils for International Education is another American project. Doina Stati, coordinator of the Professional Fellows Program in Moldova and Flex Moldova assistant, said that the American Councils is one of the most successful institutions in the world and the nations cooperate with the American Councils through cultural exchange, linguistic training and professional development. “We administer a number of programs, such as Flex Moldova - an academic and cultural program for lyceum students of the Republic of Moldova. Applications to the program can be filed from August. We also have such a program as Professional Fellows, which is intended for young people who work in such areas as governance and society. This program is opened in November. We have a very nice student community. The graduates return from the U.S. inspired, with richer cultural and academic knowledge and implement different programs and projects in Moldova,” stated Doina Stati.

The America Days in the Republic of Moldova are at their third edition.
