The resumption of the railway traffic through the Transnistrian region remains yet an unsolved problem. Valeriu Ciubuc, coordinator on behalf of Chisinau of the working group for developing the infrastructure and ensuring the normal activity of the railways, said they hope things will advance this year. They are now discussing the restoration of the freight train routes on the Mateuti - Slobodka section (via the Rybnitsa station) and the Bender-Cuciurgan section (through the Novosavitskoe station).
“We are ready to resume the railway traffic via Transnistria. We are yet to deal with the problem of customs procedures. In concert with the Reintegration Office, the Ministry of Economy, the Customs Service and the Transnistrian side, we will be looking for solutions. If the economic aspect of the problem is solved, the freight train routes through Transnistria will be restored,” said Valeriu Ciubuc.
He also said that guarantees should be secured that the transiting goods will not be stopped and will remain intact.
According to Valeriu Ciubuc, the working group’s activity is productive. The restoration of the Chisinau-Odessa passenger train services through the Transnistrian region on September 1, 2010 was the first result achieved. The second result was the initiation of more intense talks on the assessment of the technical condition of the region’s infrastructure.
The Chisinau-Tiraspol working groups resumed work in February 2010. They aim to build confidence between the people living on the two sides of the Nistru River.
