Chisinau guarantees medical assistance to Transnistrians in time of crisis

The Chisinau authorities will ensure access to medical care for the inhabitants of the Security Zone, in the context of the energy crisis caused by the disruption of natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region. At the same time, as announced by the Reintegration Policy Office, the Varnitsa Health Center will continue to operate, thanks to alternative energy resources, after December 28, since it was disconnected from the gas network, IPN reports.

"Chisinau ensures uninterrupted access to health care for residents of the Security Zone. The Varnița Health Center will continue to operate with alternative energy resources, and the program and work spaces will be optimized to meet the needs of 15 423 patients, 10 500 of whom come from Transnistrian localities such as Bender, Tiraspol, Slobozia and Sucleia", the Office for Reintegration Policies said in a statement.

Medical institutions in Chisinau are ready to transfer patients from the Transnistrian region to Moldovan hospitals, if necessary, but so far there have been no requests to do so. "The Ministry of Health is in constant contact with the Reintegration Policy Office to respond to the needs in the medical field. We note that the health system is ready to provide medical services to Moldovan citizens from the Transnistrian region, but up to this hour, January 3, there have been no requests for transferring patients from hospitals in the region to medical institutions in the Republic of Moldova", said Health Ministry press officer Cristina Ivanco.

The disruption of gas supplies on the left bank of the Dniester river has complicated the situation in the Transnistrian medical system.

In Tiraspol, doctors from two polyclinics will work in a single medical unit, polyclinic no. 3, to ensure continuity of consultations. "Doctors will remain the same, only they will work in one location, in order to make more efficient use of resources," the so-called health ministry in Tiraspol said. During the holiday period the schedule is extremely restricted: patients can only come for consultations on January 4 and 6, between 8:00 and 12:00.

The so-called health ministry also informs that during the whole period of the state of emergency the specialists of the oncological and psychoneurological dispensary will be only at the Tiraspol Clinical Hospital.
