The managers of the European Weightlifting Federation have paid a working visit to Moldova to assess the preparations for the European U15 and U17 Weightlifting Championships. The competition will take place in the municipality of Chisinau in July, IPN reports.
“We will be making every effort to together organize this competition in the best way possible. The results achieved by our athletes at international level are special. Last year we won an impressive number of medals - 433 medals at different Olympic events and 22 medals at the European Weightlifting Championships, including seven golds, nine silvers and six bronzes. We also won six medals at the World Championships – three silvers and six bronzes. We hope the upcoming championships will also be with great results for our sportspersons,” Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topală told a news conference.
According to Milan Mihajlović, Secretary General of the European Weightlifting Federation, the capital of Moldova is a nice city with hospitable people. “We came here to see the venue of the event. It is a fantastic place. I’m sure the championships will be successful,” stated Milan Mihajlović.
The Secretary General of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation Alexandru Pădure said the places that will host the competition are of a high quality, including the place where the championships will be opened – the Chisinau Arena. “The European Weightlifting Championships involve over 35 countries. We will offer all the necessary support to the Weightlifting Federation of the Republic of Moldova and to the organizational committee in general,” he noted.
Moldova hosts a European championship in an Olympic event for the first time. The competition is organized by the Weightlifting Federation of the Republic of Moldova with support from the Ministry of Education and Research.
