There aren’t enough pupils in secondary schools in Chisinau. The statement was made by Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, head of Education, Youth and Sport Division, during the City Hall operative meeting. Meanwhile, local authorities assure that educational institutions would be ready for the new school year by September 1, Info-Prim Neo report. According to her, the 7th-9th forms have a low number of pupils. Some forms have 20 pupils, while the usual number is 30 pupils. Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb explained that although the tendency was usual for August, it aggravated recently. “The insufficient number of pupils is a consequence of families’ migration abroad, as parents take their children with them to study abroad. Internal migration is another factor to be considered. Many children come from villages to study in Chisinau, but choose a school only at the end of the month”, Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said. She added that the registration of pupils in the 10th form would take place between August 20 and 25. “It is only after August 25 we’ll be able to comment on the number of pupils that attend lyceum education in the schools in Chisinau”, said Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb. According to Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, all of the city’s educational institutions will be repaired partially of fully by September 1. Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb says that repair works are finished in 70% of schools. Next week, windows will be changed in 5 schools within a European project. This year, 20 million lei have been allotted from the municipal budget for the renovation of educational institutions. There are 144 schools and 151 kindergartens in Chisinau.
