After the obtaining of the liberalized visa regime with the EU, the next step on which they work in Chisinau is the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU as soon as possible. The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat, in the program “After 20 Years” on ProTV Bucuresti channel, said they hope that the signing will take place at the end of May, IPN reports.
“Earlier, we agreed the accord to be signed at the end of August. Now the deadline is the end of June, but we hope that it will happen at the end of May,” said the politician. He added that the signing of the Association Agreement and the obtaining of the liberalized visa regime haven’t been influenced by the Transnistrian conflict and he is glad that the European partners understood that if the country is closer to the EU, it will manage to resolve the dispute.
Vlad Filat also said that the people in Moldova need sufficient and efficient information for the vote for the next legislative body to be based on knowledge, not manipulation. The government admits that this is one of its drawbacks as the authorities haven’t yet managed to convince the people that Moldova’s integration into the EU is not only an option, but a vital necessity. “There were launched a series of campaigns that I hope will soon have an effect,” he stated.
He also said that Chisinau wants to have goods relations with Moscow, but these relations must be correct.
As to the Transnistrian conflict, Vlad Filat reiterated that Chisinau wants to grant a special extended status to the eastern districts of the country. “Officially, Russia supports this process, but unofficially it supports separatism in the region,” stated the politician. He added that if Russia occupies the territories in southeastern Ukraine, it will create an instability belt not only for Moldova, but also for the EU and the international community should understand that direct actions and positions are needed.
Asked about the visit by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin to Tiraspol on May 9, the chairman of the PLDM said the Moldovan authorities recommended him not to pay this visit, but, as far as it is known, the Russian politician will anyway come to Moldova. It’s now not sensible to ban Rogozin from coming to Moldova.
Vlad Filat also said the Communist Party and its acolytes will try to make use of the day of May 9 in Moldova. Europe Day will be celebrated the same day. Some want conformation on this day, while the authorities aim to help the people to understand the situation and the events correctly.
