Chisinau does not exclude deterioration of relations with Moscow

The Moldovan authorities do not rule out the possibility that the relations with Russia will deteriorate, but such a development is not wanted, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valeriu Chiveri. In the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, he noted that Moscow pays no attention to Chisinau now. It’s not excluded that pressure will be exerted after Moldova signs the Association Agreement with the European Union.

“I don’t think Russia will stage provocations before the signing of the accord. We try to understand their messages. The pressure can increase afterward. Moldova depends on the political security umbrella provided by the European Union,” stated Valeriu Chiveri, quoted by IPN.

However, the deputy minister expressed his optimism that the situation will be overcome. “Our relations went through love and hatred. There are many problems, but we make effort to change things,” said Valeriu Chiveri.

Dean of the Faculty of History of the Teacher Training University “Ion Creanga” Sergiu Musteata said the Moldovan-Russian relations will not be affected by the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. “The fact that we are coming closer to the EU does not mean that we will withdraw from the CIS. We will continue to cooperate and have commercial relations with Russia,” he stated.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin, who visited Chisinau earlier this week, said in an interview that the signing of this document will affect the Moldovan-Russian relations on a long term.
