On the last day on which applications could be yet filed – May 14 –documents were submitted by three candidates for the post of mayor of Chisinau and 16 candidates for the post of Chisinau councilor. The draw held in the evening decided that the Democratic Party’s candidate for mayor Monica Babuc will be under No. 15 on the ballot, the candidate of the Electoral Bloc “People’s List” Igor Caldare – under No. 16, while current mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, of the Liberal Party, will be the 17th, IPN reports.
Three parties, an electoral bloc and 12 independent candidates, including Maia Laguta, Mihai Severovan and John Onoje, filed the documents required to be registered as candidates for the post of Chisinau councilor.
The head of the Chisinau District Electoral Council Ion Turcan told the journalists that 17 persons applied to run for the post of mayor, all of them being fielded by political parties. Both parties with lists of candidates and independent candidates will run for posts on the Chisinau Municipal Council. Currently, the ballot for the Chisinau Council includes 38 positions.
On May 15 and May 18, the Council will hold meetings to decide on the registration of the candidates who filed the documents on the last two days before the deadline.
