Chisinau debates its new General Urban Plan

The majority of Chisinau’s education institutions did not benefit from capital repairs lately, including of the roofs, doors, windows, as well as of the sewerage and thermal networks. 20% of the total education institutions do not have sports rooms and concert-halls. Also, the classes for chemistry, physics, biology and other disciplines are not properly equipped. According to the statistics, the schools in the municipality of Chisinau have on average 1 computer for 46 students, which much beneath region’s mean, Veaceslav Bulat, consultant at Business Consulting Institute stated at the public debate dedicated to the education, health and social infrastructure, which is a part of the series of actions aiming at promoting the new General Urban Plan of Chisinau. At the same time, the school libraries have insufficient books. The kindergartens are overcrowded because they are also attended by the children from the suburbs, as well as by other 1000 children from other settlements of Moldova, whose parents do not have permanent residence in Chisinau. Another problem is the fact that the majority of education institutions are located in the central region of Chisinau. The General Urban Plan of Chisinau proposes several programmes and projects aiming at improving the situation in this field. It includes restoring the edifices and optimising their thermal regime, equipping with modern technologies and new informational programmes. It is planned to equip the sport rooms and grounds. The implementation of continuous improvement policy of the education system and adjustment to the European standards is planned to be based on 4 programmes concerning the implementation of the European education principles, adjustment of education system to the necessities of the labour market, promotion of the education programmes “Education for Everyone”, as well stimulating the gifted children, including by creating a special Centre for them. Also, the public debate tackled the polices and programmes aimed at improving and expanding the health infrastructure, diversification of social assistance services, development of the services related to the security of the citizens, all included in the GUP. The General Urban Plan can be found on www.habitatmoldova.org. Other 2 debates that will tackle the economic development, local administration and transport fields will be organised next week.
