Chisinau councilors to open bank account for flood-stricken
The Chisinau councilors will open a bank account for the flood-stricken people. The proposal was made at the Chisinau Municipal Council's (CMC) session on Thursday. They will also collect clothes and food, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The idea has come from the Communist council Reghina Apostolova and got her colleagues' support. She has said the Communist councilors gave boarding school no. 2 from Botanica district 34,220 lei – their remuneration for working in the CMC.
Corina Fusu, a Liberal councilor, says the Liberal faction fully supports the proposal of general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca to help the people from Moldova's center and north and will transfer their remunerations for 5 CMC sittings.
The Social-Democrat Loreta Handrabura put up the idea to set up special points to collect clothes and food. She has called on councilors and City Hall functionaries to allocate money for the flood-affected.
The councilor Oleg Oniscenco says the sums to be transferred to the account will be much smaller than the victims' damages. “I propose to seek a more serious solution. The Finance Direction should seek for several million lei to give those people,” he said.
The Moldova Noastra Alliance councilor, Oleg Cernei, called the councilors' statements as populist. “There is this Reserve Fund of the City Hall. The Government allocated money from its similar Fund to build houses in Soroca. If it is needed, the same will be done in this case,” he said.
