Chisinau councilors criticize bill on status of Chisinau municipality

The representatives of several groups from the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) harshly criticized the bill concerning the status of Chisinau municipality for the reason that this was designed by the Liberal Party with the aim of strengthening the position of Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca as a result of the latest disagreements between the mayor and the Council. The issue was discussed in the talk show “Politics” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

The head of the Socialist group Ion Ceban said the goal of the bill is to strengthen the position of Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca following the dissolution of the alliance formed on the CMC, where the Liberals formed a majority. “They aim to exclude the CMC from the decision-making process. Chirtoaca lately named to posts persons close to the Liberal Party, relatives and classmates. The things that happen at the Chisinau City Hall are serious. Everything is being destroyed. The CMC is making effort to bring things in order, but the City Hall’s administration opposes. They even threatened me,” he stated.

Councilor of the European People’s Platform - Iurie Leanca Veaceslav Bulat noted that the given bill wasn’t subject to public debates. “It is a very weak bill. The Liberals wanted to catch two hares at once - to indicate that the bill was debated publicly and to exclude its non-constitutionality,” he said.

Former Liberal councilor Oleg Cernei said that by this bill the Liberals aim to strengthen their position in the municipality of Chisinau. “Such developments were triggered off by the arguments between the CMC and the mayor general. There was nothing of the kind earlier. When the Liberal Party saw that Chirtoaca’s people are being dismissed, it tried to do something,” he stated.
