Chisinau Council turns eye to Euro TV, Antena C

The City Council’s Liberal Democratic faction suggests the setting up of a special investigation commission to examine the lawfulness of privatizing the municipal enterprises Antena C Radio and Euro TV and the whether the new owners observe the contractual obligations, Info-Prim Neo reports. Faction leader Alexandru Tanase told a City Council meeting on Thursday that a year has passed since the stations were auctioned, yet the buyers failed to present the activity reports to the Council and inform it about the investments made in the meantime, in accordance with the privatization agreements. The radio station Antena C was sold in January 2007 for 1.050 million lei. The buyer assumed the contractual obligation to invest in the station not less than 3 million lei, in accordance with an investment schedule stipulated by the agreement. Alexandru Tanase said that the buyer also committed himself to keeping the old staff and paying off the enterprise’s debts within three months. One of the agreement clauses obliges Antena C’s new owner to present to the Council, whenever the latter deems it appropriate, any information about the implementation of the investment program and about other obligations agreed. Euro TV’s new owner is in a similar situation. This enterprise was sold for 2 million lei. The buyer bound to invest in the channel a sum of 25.5 million lei within 12 months. Therefore, on 2 February 2008 the owner should have completed the investment program and submit a report to the CMC. Tanase says the Council hasn’t received so far any report on the enterprises’ activity and on the investments made.
