Valeriu Didencu was discharged from the post of secretary of the Chisinau Municipal Council in the June 29 meeting of the Council based on his resignation. In the same meeting, the municipal councilors, except for the Liberal ones, who didn’t take part in the meeting, tried to name a secretary on an interim basis, but failed amid the lack of consensus, IPN reports.
Among the candidates were Ludmila Kutasevich, who works in the division responsible for the coordination of the Council’s work, and Vadim Branzaniuc, head of the Public Relations Division of the Chisinau City Hall. Unaffiliated councilor Ion Stefanita proposed the senior specialist of the Legal Division Tudor Tofan for this post.
The Council’s standing bureau was convened twice, but the councilors could not reach a consensus. The leader of the Socialist group Ion Ceban proposed postponing the issue until next Tuesday and his proposal was accepted.
Valeriu Didencu was arrested on passive corruption, influence peddling and abuse of power charges at end-May. He was in remand detention for 30 days and a week ago was placed under house arrest.
