Chisinau Council holds secret meeting, Communists left out
The Chisinau City Council held an unheralded meeting on Monday evening to discuss issues on the agenda of a session started on July 20 and repeatedly adjourned for lack of quorum and other reasons. The meeting's initiators apparently failed to invite the Communists, the largest group in the Council.
Council Secretary Valeriu Didencu told Info-Prim Neo the meeting was initially scheduled for 2:00PM, but was postponed because a large number of Liberal and Liberal-Democrat councilors were attending an international conference of local authorities. Back from the conference, the representatives of the two groups decided to assemble for a Council meeting, and since a quorum was present, the meeting could proceed. Didencu says that it was the responsibility of those who called the meeting to announce the Communist group and the media.
The present councilors voted to adopt a number of proposals on the agenda, including the reorganization of the heat and hot water utility Termocom and adjustments to the 2012 municipal budget. Issues related to local taxes were removed from the order of the day.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Communist group leader Boris Golovin said the Communist councilors showed up for the meeting at 2:00PM and waited for nearly two hours before leaving. Boris Golovin claims that the evening's meeting was purposefully held to leave out the Communist group. According to Boris Golovin, all the adopted issues were voted on in bulk and in record time.
Valeriu Didencu said that only those proposals which received the prior approval of specialized committees were adopted in a single package, and those which aroused objections were voted on separately.
The leaders of the Liberal and Lib-Dem groups were not readily available for comments.
