The electronic voting in the Chisinau Municipal Council cannot be implemented as the current legislation does not envision this, the Council’s secretary Adrian Talmaci explained. The municipal authorities will ask the Government and Parliament to adopt an amendment to the law on the status of the municipality of Chisinau so that electronic voting could be introduced, IPN reports.
“Legally, we will be now unable to do this for the simple reason that the legislation of the Republic of Moldova does not stipulate electronic voting,” Adrian Talmaci stated in the March 10 meeting of the CMC. He noted that the equipment bought for e-voting was tested in January-February and the identified faults are to be removed.
The decision concerning the implementation of e-voting in the CMC was approved in March 2016. The system was to become functional in July 2016, but this didn’t happen.
