Chisinau Council begins sitting with moment of silence
The Chisinau City Council began its meeting on Monday by keeping a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the totalitarian communist regime; the Communist councilors refused to stand up, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The first issue on the agenda was the installation of a statue dedicated to the deportees in the Train Station Alley. A model of the statue is expected to be presented on July 6, on the 61st anniversary of the second wave of mass deportations (in 1949).
The monument will be installed in the Train Station Alley, the point of departure for scores of Moldovans to the gulags. The author of the statue is artist Iurie Platon. The sculpture depicts a train which is supposed to reflect pain, suffering and death. One end of the train represents human figures who toward the other end become train parts – metal pieces, wheels, doors, and windows.
