The Chisinau Municipal Council decided to allocate 39 million lei for laying out the waste dump in Tanatareni village of Anenii Noi district and providing compensations for the damage caused to locals. The decision was taken by the votes of 31 municipal councilors. The money will be used to carry out cleanup works in Tantareni and Geamana, based on the request of the local authorities. The transportation of waste to the dump in Tantareni can be resumed on July 4. The financing was allocated because the municipal services from July 5 will be unable to take the waste to the landfill near Bubuieci commune, IPN reports.
Deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu said the money will be identified following the review of the municipal budget for the first half of this year. Of the approved sum, 17 million lei will be allocated for purchasing residual water treatment equipment with a capacity that is three times bigger than that in Bubuieci. A sum of 12 million lei will go to reinforce the levee of the waste dump, while 10 million lei will be used to build the infrastructure in Tantareni and Geamana and to compensate locals for the caused damage.
Nistor Grozavu also said that the municipality suggests fully cleaning Tantareni and taking the waste to the dump and restoring road infrastructure and public lighting. The municipal authorities are also ready to help Geamana to improve the situation there.
According to the deputy mayor, the waste dump in Tantareni can be used from today. However, so as not to affect the levee and to reinforce this, the waste will be stored in a separate cell. The feasibility study for laying out the waste dump envisions the setting up of separate cells from which biogas will be later extracted. There is a company that can do this.
In the same connection, Nistor Grozavu said the inhabitants of the two villages are disappointed because the municipality of Chisinau earlier ignored their requests. But he voiced hope that the measures planned to be taken in these villages will change the attitude of the local council that is to hold a meeting today.
