Chisinau clothes factory catches fire
A fire broke out in the ready-made clothes factory “Ionel” located near the Central Market in Chisinau on September 30.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the fire happened in a factory annexe where there were carried out welding works. The firefighters were called by employees of the factory and passersby who saw smoke coming out of the windows on the third and fourth floors. The fire was put out quickly. It was established that the fire broke out during welding works.
One day earlier, a man died from carbon monoxide poisoning after a lit cigarettes set the bedclothes on fire. The tragedy happened in a house in Orhei. The owner of the house aged 61 fell asleep with the lit cigarette. He was found dead in his bed at about 17.00.
In the morning of the same day, the Cahul emergency service was informed that an unidentified substance was spreading in the yard of a building located on Stephan the Great Street. The substance turned out to be mercury. It has been collected during several hours. The surface was treated with a special chemical substance.
It was determined that the mercury was inside a tire at the local waste dump. Children cut the tire and the mercury flew out. The police are trying to establish where the mercury came from.
