Chisinau City Hall to reexamine older Byk riverbed extension project

The Chisinau City Hall returned to the Byk riverbed extension project and is ready to contribute about €40,000 for working out the conception. The issue was discussed at the last meeting of the Chisinau Council, Info-Prim Neo reports. A number of projects to lay out the bed of River Byk have been proposed after the Second World War. The most ambitious one was to extend the riverbed and increase the volume of water, which was submitted in 2007. The Chisinau City Hall signed then an intention protocol with the Polytechnic University of Milan to work out the conception. An international workshop themed “A General View of Chisinau” took place in Milan. It was attended by experts from a number of European countries. After three years, the Chisinau administration returned to this project. “Specialists of the City Hall analyzed the project and the results of the workshop are interesting and opportune for the capital city,” Liliana Balan, senior specialist of the City Hall's Foreign Relations and European Integration Division, said at the last meeting of the Chisinau Council. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said Milan professors visited Moldova and had discussions with Moldovan architects and designers as well as the population. “We can say that the conception will be based on the opinions and needs of the Chisinau residents,” the deputy mayor said. After the conception is formulated, the project will be presented for public debates. Afterward, it will be submitted to the Chisinau Council for approval. A number of companies expressed readiness to invest in this project. The local authorities say it will be hard to implement it as many plots in the area have been privatized.
