Chisinau City Hall to cover partially Tudor Casapu's operation
The Chisinau City Hall will pay 20-30% of the liver transplant operation of the Olympic weightlifting champion Tudor Casapu, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca announced Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the mayor, the Chisinau administration is to identify and allocate about 200,000-300,000 lei for the operation that will be performed at Irinel Popescu's Clinic of the Bucharest-based Fundeni Clinical Institute.
Moldova's best weightlifter suffers from acute liver failure and needs a liver transplantation as soon as possible. Tudor Casapu was weightlifting champion of the Soviet Union in 1987-1990, world champion in Budapest in 1990, Olympic champion in Barcelona in 1992, and won silvers at the European and World Championships.
Earlier, Prime Minister Vlad Filat promised Tudor Casapu the authorities will provide support to him and supply him with everything he needs for the trip to Bucharest.
Dozens of Moldovans have been operated at Irinel Popescu's Clinic, where surgeon Vlad Brasoveanu from Moldova's Nisporeni district has worked for many years.
