The contract with EME Parkleitsystem, which was to build pay parking lots in Chisinau, was suspended. The company was informed about this by an official letter, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca announced in the May 2 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, IPN reports.

“Given that arrests were made at the Chisinau City Hall and, respectively, at the Transport Division, I sent an official letter to the given company whereby I informed in detail about the suspension of the contract. Thus, in accordance with one of the contract clauses, which envisions such situations, the contract’s implementation was stopped,” said Dorin Chirtoaca, adding that an internal inquiry will be opened.

Last week, seven persons were arrested on corruption charges in a case concerning the selection of companies that were to build pay parking lots in Chisinau. Among those arrested are deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu and head of the Public Transport and Communications Division Igor Gamretski. The first was placed under house arrest, while the second is held on remand at Penitentiary No. 13.
