Chisinau City Hall stops construction works on Calea Iesilor St

The Chisinau City Hall halted the construction works on an apartment building located on Calea Iesilor St. The works were started by the Congress of Russian Communities in Moldova. The local dwellers staged a protest and asked that the works be stopped. In a communiqué, the City Hall says that the local public authorities will reexamine the general plan for managing the land for construction and the project documents. The dispute between the dwellers and the builders arouse earlier this week after the plot was fenced for the building site. The works were to begin last December, while the construction authorization expires on June 16. When the protest was mounted, dweller Natalia Mardare told Info-Prim Neo that several persons relocated the playground, fenced the building site and cut by a tree every day. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the leader of the movement “Ravnopravie” and the head of the Congress of Russian Communities Valeriu Klimenko said that a building with 18 stories is to be erected on that place. The lower stories will house a Cultural Center for Children. He expressed his bewilderment at the protest, saying the city needs more such centers. According to Klimenko, the building will be constructed at a cost of 60 million lei and all the works are legal.
