Chisinau City Hall sets up project to modernize Chisinau's Central Market
New shopping centers, modernized halls and underground car parks could appear at the Central Market in Chisinau by 2025. The project worked out by the institute “Chisinauproiect” was presented at the May 17 meeting of the City Hall. It will be implemented in three stages during the next 15 years without interrupting the work of the Central Market. In the end, the market will be three times larger than now, said deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Under the project, three-story shopping centers will be built at the entrance from Tighina St and the one from Armeneasca St. The Central Bus Terminal will be relocated. There will be constructed a car park with 1,400 places as well as two underground passages that will connect Bulgara St under the multistory building located on Stefan cel Mare Blvd. An underground five-story car park will provide 850 places. “The shopping centers and multistory car parks will be simple, but resistant constructions with easily transformable skeleton,” the deputy mayor said.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the Central Market will continue work throughout the reconstruction period. “Any major project is implemented in several stages: formulation of the conception, public debates, approval by the Chisinau Municipal Council, and working out of a plan of action for implementing the project. The given project will not affect those who earn their livelihood in the market,” Dorin Chirtoaca said.
