Chisinau City Hall requests court to modify itinerary of LGBT march

The Chisinau City Hall filed an application to the court, asking changing the itinerary of the march announced by the sexual minorities for May 19, IPN reports. According to a communiqué from the City Hall, a number of people and public organizations reacted to the preliminary declaration submitted, in accordance with the Law on Assemblies, by the Information Center “Genderdoc-M”, which defends sexual minorities’ rights.

Requests to ban the LGBT march were made to the City Hall by the Metropolitan Church of Chisinau and All Moldova, the League of Knights of “Stephen the Great” Order, and the Union of Veterans “St Gheorghe the Conqueror”. Also, the Public Association “Aobcvira” informed the local public administration that they intend to stage a meeting in the form of protest the same day, May 19, near the building of the Ministry of the Interior.

In order to prevent possible altercations between the protesters, the City Hall proposed banning staging the sexual minorities’ march through the center of Chisinau, along Stefan cel Mare Blvd., and holding it at the Summer Theater in “Valea Morilor” Park.

Contacted by IPN, coordinator of lobbying and advocacy programs at “Genderdoc-M” Angela Frolov said the itinerary will be modified if need be. The municipality didn’t discuss with the organizers and submitted the application to court without informing “Genderdoc-M”.
