The Chisinau City Hall in the immediate period intends to purchase at least ten apartments to provide socially deprived people and persons who need better living conditions with dwellings. The apartments will be allotted first to persons who have an irrevocable court decision by which the local public authorities are obliged to provide housing to them, IPN reports.
In the December 4 meeting of officials of municipal services and divisions, acting mayor of Chisinau Silvia Radu said that in meetings with residents of Chisinau, she learned that the social apartments were distributed according to such principles as friendship and political affiliation. “In fact, there was only one party whose friends managed to get social apartments. We have situations when there are definitive court decisions, including by the ECHR, by which the City Hall is obliged to distribute apartments,” stated Silvia Radu, noting that in some of the cases no decision has been taken during 15 years.
The acting mayor said they decided to purchase apartments after the Municipal Mortgage Agency Chisinau, in which the municipality owns over 30% of the shares, proposed buying ten apartments at the price of over 10,000 lei per square meter with the profit for 2017.
Silvia Radu noted that a special commission will be set up to deal with the distribution of available dwellings or apartments that will be purchased by the Chisinau City Hall. The applications will be analyzed in the order in which they were submitted and apartments will be allocated based on the oldness of the court decisions.
