Chisinau City Hall offers to compensate the poor in upcoming cold season
The Chisinau City Hall plans to offer the poor residents compensations worth some 70 million lei for the costs of the upcoming heating season. This sum represents just one-third of the sum offered from the city coffers last year.
A final decision on the amount of compensations for the poor in Chisinau is to be made Tuesday by the Chisinau City Council.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca stated at today’s City Hall meeting that he personally opts for compensations for all the underprivileged people in the municipality, including those living in suburbs, no matter if they are connected to the centralised distribution system or not.
The Council is to decide tomorrow who will be the recipients of the compensations. Most likely these will be the families with incomes below the subsistence level, estimated at 935 lei.
The councilmen are also supposed to approve a regulation for disbursing the compensations. According to its draft, the district offices will verify the applications of the potential beneficiaries, which will contain papers confirming their low incomes.
At present, the difference between the price of 540 lei per G-calorie, approved at the begging of the year, and the old price of 233, which is still paid by the household consumers, is covered by the city coffers, as decided by the former councilmen. The measure has cost the municipality some 200 million lei, of which only a half has paid to the heat supplier Termocom so far.
