Chisinau City Hall looking for funds to erect dog shelter

The Chisinau City Hall hopes to find funds for building a dog shelter. The costs were estimated at 32 million lei, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The works will last for at least two years. Initially, there will be made connections to the underground networks that will have a length of about 2 km. Afterward, there will be erected the building,” the head of the Capital Constructions Division Roman Sofroni said Monday. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked the deputy mayor in charge to reduce the estimated costs. “We cannot invest so much money, but we nevertheless must identify financing as the risks are very high. Only a part of the sum will be allocated from the budget. The rest will be collected from other resources. Some of the components may be removed from the project so as to cut costs,” he stated. “A German company expressed readiness to support us. We are also helped by NGOs that aim to defend the rights of animals,” said deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu. Such a project will be implemented in Moldova for the first time. If it is built according to plan, it will be able to compete with some of the European animal shelters. The plot on which the shelter will be built is situated on the periphery of Chisinau.
