Chisinau City Hall launches internal inquiry into Alba Iulia St case
Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca ordered an internal inquiry and the examination of the construction materials used to repair Alba Iulia St situated in Buiucani district. Cracks and holes appeared on a portion of 15 meters of this street only three months after it was repaired, Info-Prim Neo reports.
”We did everything possible to repair this street. And now the asphalt started to crumble. How can we look into the people’s eyes and will the population trust the division responsible for street repair?” Dorin Chirtoaca asked in Monday’s meeting of City Hall officials.
Fissures appeared at the intersection of Alba Iulia with the streets Paris and Liviu Deleanu and the Principates’ Union Square.
Veaceslav Tarna, the head of the Public Transport and Communications Division, said the works performed three months ago were not extensive works as the City Hall announced because the foundation of Alba Iulia St wasn’t restored.
”It’s not fair to censure the entire team for these 15 meters of street as this is very unpleasant for me. We repaired other streets like Bucuresti, Ismail and Ciuflea five or even seven years ago and they are in good state,” said Veaceslav Tarna.
Dorin Chirtoaca stressed a repaired street should be serviceable for at least five years. Another two Chisinau streets that were repaired in 2010 started to crumble. These are Trandafirilor St in Botanica district and Lech Kaczynski St in Telecentru quarter.
The Public Transport and Communications Division this year has been allocated 230 million lei from the municipal budget and capital investments for street repair.
