A specialised commission set up by order of the mayor general of Chisinau will work out a plan of action for cutting down the seriously damaged and old trees by February 1, 2008. The commission will say how many saplings and of what kind should be planted instead of the cleared trees and will assess the cost of works. The commission is composed of four functionaries of the City Hall and of officials of state institutions and nongovernmental environment institutions. Deputy Mayor Vlad Cotet was named as head of the commission. Over 300 trees fell to the ground in the municipality this year as a result of strong winds and drought. Damage was caused in 35 of the cases, head of the Association for Managing Green Spaces Eliferie Haruta told Info-Prim Neo.
