Chisinau City Hall discusses issue of roadside crosses

The crosses set up illegally on the roadside in memory of deceased persons will be taken away or relocated to cemeteries, Info-Prim Neo reports. A bill to this effect was submitted to the mayor of Chisinau for signing. Dorin Chirtoaca said similar requests were made earlier too, the problem being an old one. “The Architecture Division and the Funeral Service should deal with the problem, but discussions should be held first with the relatives who placed the crosses. The Church should also be involved. We will see then. The crosses are not the top problem of Chisinau,” the mayor stated on February 18. Architect Radu Blaj suggested collecting information about the roadside crosses existing in Chisinau from district head’s offices. “We must compile a register of monuments on public territory and all the crosses put up illegally should be taken away,” said the architect. Minister of Culture Valeriu Focsa at the start of the year made an approach to the Chisinau City Hall, asking examining the problem of roadside crosses.
