Chisinau City Hall denies PSD's accusations

The Chisinau City Hall denies the accusations made by the Social Democratic Party, which said the waste disposal plant that is to be built in Chisinau will pose an environmental threat, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the City Hall. The Italian investor was selected by contest by the former administration of the City Hall in 2005. The contract was signed by former acting mayor Vasile Ursu in 2006. Later, the present administration of the City Hall modified the contract as it contained provisions that ran counter to the administration's interests. The provision allowing the investor to process waste brought from other countries at the plant was also removed. The City Hall fulfilled its contractual obligations, allocating a plot on which the plant is to be built, the communique says. Similar waste burning plants are operated in a number of European states, such as Italy, Germany and Sweden. Earlier today, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) announced it will demand in court that the contract signed by the City Hall and the Italian company Engineering Consulting SRL for building the household waste disposal plant be abolished.
