Chisinau City Hall decides to resume re-building stairs in Valea Morilor Park

The Chisinau authorities decide to resume the reconstruction of the main stairs at the entrance in Valea Morilor Park. This will be done waiting for a report on the chemical composition of the mud on the lake's bed, Info-Prim Neo reports. The head of the Capital Constructions Direction, Vasile Panfil, told the Monday sitting of the City Hall that that “it is necessary to make the things at Valea Morilor going.” General Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca requested that the information is published on the City Hall's web site for everybody to see how the project is run. He has urged for a better cooperation with the central authorities concerning the situation of Valea Morilor Park. Vasile Panfil has said there are no restrictions on behalf of the central authorities. The Preventive Medicine Center is asked to analyze the chemical composition of the mud. Later they will apply for endorsements from the Environment, Culture and Health Ministries. The idea of re-constructing Valea Morilor Park and cleaning the lake emerged after all the fish died. Two years ago, the Chisinau City Hall and the Environment Ministry suggested then to evacuate the water and the mud from the lake and to cover its bed with granite slabs. The works started in October 2006, but were halted because of lack of money. Recently , the Environment Ministry is said to have stated the works cannot go on, because the mud contained toxic heavy metals.
