Chisinau City Hall condemns police violence
The Chisinau City Hall describes the fact that the Communist government admitted only now that Valeriu Boboc died on April 7 after being beaten as extremely serious, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“This fact is worrisome as it comes three months after the death of Valeriu Boboc. The City Hall announced that Boboc’s body had signs of violence on the day that he was found dead,” the institution says in a communiqué.
The local authority condemns the terror, violence and intimidation used by the police against the people, especially young persons, during and after the April 7 events.
The communiqué also says that on the basis of the testimonies of the persons released, the local authorities created a database of 371 persons that were arrested and punished.
The last report presented by human rights NGOs says that 700 persons were detained by the police after the April 7 events. But the figures presented by the central authorities are several times lower.
The Chisinau City Hall said that it repeatedly called on the international community to immediately engage and carry out an international investigation in the events. It demands that the inhuman and degrading treatment and torture in detention places be stopped, that the rights of the detainees, first of all to defense, be guaranteed and that the persons that committed the violations be punished.
