The Chisinau City Hall requested the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” to free the Great National Assembly Square so that repair works could be executed on Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd. According to the authorities, the tents should be taken away from the square this week so as to manage to perform the works on time or the municipality will face penalties, IPN reports.
In the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, the head of the Public Transport and Communications Division Igor Gamretski said that he contacted one of the leaders of the Platform “Dignity and Truth”, which mounted the protests and put up the tents, and agreed to meet last Friday to discuss the issue. But nobody from the Platform called to arrange a meeting. If the local authorities do not manage to free and repair the central square of Chisinau, they will have to pay penalties for the non-completion of the project.
Asked by journalists, deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said the authorities do not want to take the tents away from the square by force. “If we do not reach a compromise, we will continue the works on the roadway and will try to have discussions with the protesters,” he stated.
In the same meeting, it was said that the works on Negruzzi Blvd go on and the street is to be fully closed to traffic so as to finish the works. Vasile Alecsandri is to be asphalted and the repair works will be coon completed there. Over 5,000 of old asphalt were removed from Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd and about 9,000 square meters are to be taken away this week. Approximately 6,000 square meters of the street are to be newly asphalted. Work on the networks will be done at night so as to intervene less to redirect the units of transport.
