Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said the fare of 2 lei per trip by trolleybus and of 3 lei per trip by bus can be kept if the Government annually refunds 350 million lei to the City Hall. This is the sum with which the Chisinau Electric Transport Company and the Urban Bus Company need to be subsided in addition to the 700 million lei offered to the two companies each year, IPN reports.
“As most of the MPs and representatives of the Government in public criticize and state their negative opinion on the adjustment of the public transport fares following the increase in the prices of gas, electricity, gasoline, diesel fuel and the rest of the products in a chain, the Chisinau City Hall made an approach to the Government and Parliament, notifying these that the public transport services can be supported even in the current difficult conditions. But another 350 million lei is needed for the purpose,” stated Ion Ceban.
According to him, so far the municipal budget lost over 467 million lei as a result of the pandemic crisis, the larger bills for energy resources, the higher prices of products and services, including due to the refugee crisis. This money hasn’t been yet refunded.
The mayor also said that the mayor’s offices in the country to date haven’t received any money for managing the refugee crisis or coping with the subsequent price rises.
