Chisinau City Hall and EBRD sign lending contract to buy 90 trolleybuses
The Chisinau City Hall and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Thursday signed a lending contract and a guarantee agreement to support the Chisinau Public Transport Project and purchase 90 new trolleybuses, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the City Hall.
The cost of the project is €13.7 million, including €0.7 million for technical assistance. The EBRD will provide a loan of €5 million, the European Investment Bank another loan of €5 million, while the European Union a grant of €3 million.
Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said this project will significantly contribute to the modernization of the public transport in the municipality of Chisinau. The new trolleybuses will fully meet the European standards.
Jean-Patrick Marquet, the head of the EBRD Municipality and Infrastructure Development Department, welcomed the cooperation relations established by the Chisinau administration and the EBRD, saying the project will help reform the transport infrastructure in Moldova's capital city.
The Chisinau Public Transport Project is the first in ten years implemented by the Chisinau City Hall and the EBRD.
The Chisinau Electric Transport Company has 320 trolleybuses. The working life of 260 of them expired.
