Firefighters on 10 fire engines intervened to put out the flames that engulfed a wooden church near La Izvor Park in Chisinau this morning. Dorina Sochirca, press officer at the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, told Info-Prim Neo that the fire began in the church on Calea Iesilor Street at about 6 AM. Firemen fought for two hours, but could save nothing but a basement, as the whole church burned to ashes. Fortunately, there was no one in the church at that time. The cause of the fire is still unknown. Some think it began because of the old gas cylinders, but arson hasn’t been ruled out either.
