Chisinau Center of Preventive Medicine warns water in springs in undrinkable

The Municipal Center of Preventive Medicine in Chisinau has announced that the water in springs and wells is not potable. At least two weeks is needed to clean them following the recent heavy rain. There are about 1,600 wells and 45 springs in the municipality of Chisinau. About 70% of them do not meet the sanitary-microbiological requirements, while 85% - the sanitary and chemical norms. The situation became critical after this week’s torrential rain. “All the springs have been polluted with industrial and household waste. Many wells have been flooded. The mayors of the suburban settlements of Chisinau were recommended to clean and disinfect them,” doctor hygienist Alexandru Nalba has told Info-Prim Neo. The ponds in the municipality of Chisinau are in the same sanitary-epidemiological situation. Though swimming in lakes and rivers has been banned long ago, the risk of infection after the rain has increased. “Those that venture into swimming in the ponds that do not meet the safety norms run the risk of getting infected with cholera, hepatitis, meningitis and others infectious diseases,” Alexandru Nalba said.
