The center for housing homeless persons located on Haltei St in Chisinau is open at any hour of the day or night. Those who get there are served free hot tea, breakfast and dinner, can take a shower and receive clothes.

Contacted by IPN, the center’s official in charge of social services Marcela Dita said 100-150 persons spend the night there during cold weather, even if it has a capacity of only 70 places.

The lack of detoxification centers in Chisinau hampers the housing center’s work because inebriated persons are brought there too. There are also emergencies, when these have epileptic fits or suffer alcoholic coma.

Marcela Dita called on the people to donate warm clothes and footwear for homeless persons. The center managed to establish cooperation relations with social eateries, which will provide warm lunches to the hungry ones.

Diana Turcan, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told IPN that the decision to pitch warming up tents hasn’t been yet taken, but this could be done if the temperatures decline further.
