Chisinau Bird Market has opened

The municipal authorities have opened on Friday, June 29, the bird market, sited on Carbunarilor Street, 9. According to sources within the Central Market Municipal Enterprise, which has built and will administrate the bird market on Carbunarilor Street, the new market is one of a kind in the CIS countries and Eastern Europe and meets all the international veterinary standards. The total expenses for the construction works amounted to MDL 7.6 mln, which were allocated from the profits of the Central Market. According to the chief of the Chisinau Veterinary State Service, Radu Mudreac, the bird market will ensure the food safety of the capital city residents with regards to the prevention of the bird flu and of other infectious diseases. At the same time, veterinarians say that the bird farm will also solve the ‘street trade’ issue, while the trade in animals will be supervised by the specialised services. Only the economical entities authorised by the sanitary-veterinary authorities will be able to sell in the Carbunarilor Street market The activity of the temporary bird market on Hancesti St., Telecentru district, is to stop after the opening of the market for selling young poultry and pets on Carbunarilor Street. The construction works for the market started a year ago. In February 2006, the Chisinau Municipal Council has rented to the Central Market ME a 5.75 ha plot of land on which a pavilion of 1,500 sq m was built.
