Chisinau authorities will offer financial support to victims of Soroca building blast
The administration of Chisinau municipality will provide financial assistance to the victims of the Soroca apartment building blast. The money will be allocated from the reserve fund. The size of the benefits and the way in which they will be distributed will be determined by a special commission appointed by the Chisinau Municipal Council.
At Thursday’s meeting of the CMC, the councillors proposed compensations of 200,000, 300,000 and 400,000 lei.
Initially, it was suggested to allocate the money after amending the budget for this year, but deputy mayor Mihai Furtuna said that it would be more reasonable to allot the money from the Reserve Fund.
Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said that the councillors should not fix a certain sum, as this would be the task of the commission. CMC will not have to approve the commission’s decision.
Councilman of the Liberal Party faction Gheorghe Brega proposed that the money should not be transferred to the City Hall, but directly to the explosion victims.
The blast in the residential block located on 117 Stephan the Great Street in Soroca occurred on October 27 at about 22.00. As a result of the explosion, the third, fourth and fifth floors of a part of the building were completely destroyed. Four people died and three were hospitalized with different bodily injuries. Firefighter Igor Gheletchii died during the rescue operation. The sergeant of the Civil Protection and Emergency Services Vladimir Ghinaitis was hospitalized in a serious condition.
