Chisinau authorities say they have were to take garbage to if Tantareni waste dump is closed

The Chisinau administration says there are two places to which the garbage can be taken if the residents of Tantareni village of Anenii Noi district decide to close the local waste dump. Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, in the December 27 meeting of the City Hall, said the municipal authorities will comply with the decision of the Tantareni inhabitants, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”However, the Chisinau authorities consider that the reserve waste dumps shouldn’t be used now as additional investments can be made in Tantareni,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. During the last few years, the municipal authorities provided financial assistance to Tantareni to build water supply systems and carry out other strictly necessary works. Dorin Chirtoaca also said that the Italian investor that earlier signed a contract for building a waste recycling plant with the Chisinau administration asked for a construction authorization so as to start the works. The plant will occupy an area of about ten hectares and will generate electricity by burning solid waste. The deadline for using the waste dump in Tantareni is December 31, 2010. The ecological bodies say the dump’s capacity can be extended, but the locals are against renewing the contract with the Chisinau authorities. More than 7 tonnes of garbage are taken weekly from Chisinau to the Tantareni waste dump.
