Chisinau Arena to be built by Turkish company

The Chisinau Arena will be designed and built by the Turkish company “Summa”. Only one bid was submitted to the tender contest and the selection commission, which consisted of representatives of a number of state entities, declared it qualified in all regards. Under the plan announced by the authorities, the building woks will start at the end of this August. Details were presented in a press briefing in the evening of July 13, IPN reports.

According to Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc, the company has a general experience in the building sector of at least three designing and construction projects implemented in 2013-2017, to the value of minimum €30 million per project. The company also erected sports facilities similar to the objective of the public-private partnership, such as arenas, stadiums and sports complexes, at least one project being implemented during the past five years. The company’s annual average turnover was at least €50 million during the past three years. The company has access to financing lines of minimum €50 million from reputable banking institutions.

“We are glad that the winner had such a responsible attitude to the contest and that we managed to identify a company that accepted the severe and even drastic rules set by the Government in terms of project implementation deadlines, methods of state involvement in the project and others,” noted Monica Babuc.

Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Kiril Gaburici said as regards the project, 33 of the total 44 actions set by the working group have been already implemented. This is 75%. 11.4% of the actions are under implementation. Among the measures that are to be completed is the preparation of the building site. This month and next month, the contract will the private partner will be negotiated and technical preparations will be made to obtain the authorizations needed to start the construction works.

The minister said the project is important not only for Chisinau, but also for people from all over the country, such as athletes, persons fond of concerts and performances, etc. The arena will also give an impetus to the tourism sector.

According to the authorities, the contract will be signed in a public event.
