The Chisinau International Airport is already owned by the government, and by May 1 airport are to be transferred under state control, clarified Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
“We are now transferring airport operations under state control. There are some technical procedures, security accreditations, which require time and they should be completed by May 1”, said the prime minister.
The operations and management of Chisinau International Airport were transferred to Avia Invest in November 2013, based on a public-private partnership. The concessionaire has committed to manage the airport for 49 years and invest 250 million euros in its modernization. But the company was accused of not fulfilling its contractual obligations and investment plan, with the government seeking the agreement’s termination.
Last November, Sergiu Litvinenco, then Minister of Justice, announced the return of Chisinau Airport to government management, as ruled by the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
