Chisinau administration to take out US$10m loan to repair streets and set up water pipes
The International Finance Corporation of the World Bank will provide a loan of US$10 million for extending and rehabilitating the sewerage and water supply systems and repairing five streets in the municipality of Chisinau. The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) approved the decision to take out the loan, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the Council’s meeting, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca reminded that on January 29 the CMC empowered him to negotiate a loan for implementing the project.
According to the municipal administration, 17-18% of the homes in the city and suburbs need sewerage systems. “As to the streets, the yearly plan of repairs is not fulfilled and the road infrastructure in the municipality is in a poor condition,” Dorin Chirtoaca said.
The money provided by the International Finance Corporation will be distributed to the Transport Division, the Capital Constructions Division and the water supplier Apa-Canal Chisinau. The lending conditions will be negotiated additionally by a working group mandated by the CMC.
