Chisinau administration stops reconstruction of building in city’s historical center

The reconstruction of a historical monument located on Banulescu-Bodoni St was halted. A decision to this effect was taken by the municipal authorities after identifying a number of irregularities, Info-Prim Neo reports. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said the most serious violation was committed when selecting the color for the building’s attic, which is not in accordance with the architectural features in the area. “The attic is blue and does not associate with the first floor’s color. The color pattern is different from the approved one. Thus, we will demand that it be changed and will make sure that the architectural structure is kept as the initial design was not fully respected,” he said. He also said that the building is classed as a historical monument of local architectural importance. “I must admit that the lower part of the building was restored in compliance with the requirements. But the second floor is not fully in accordance with the project documentation,” said Nistor Grozavu. The municipal authorities decided to examine all the constructions in the historical center of Chisinau so as to avoid such deviations in the future. In the previous election campaign, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca and the Liberal Democratic Party’s candidate Victor Bodiu exchanged harsh replies over the building situated on Banulescu-Bodoni St. The latter accused then Dorin Chirtoaca of destroying a historical moment as he issued a reconstruction authorization for the building in March, after a moratorium on constructions had been put in February.
