The Chisinau City Hall has signed an €8 million loan agreement and a €4 million grant agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to rehabilitate the Bâc River. The money is accessed from the Green Climate Fund, reports IPN.
During the signing ceremony, Mayor Ion Ceban stated that the rehabilitation effort will include cleaning and landscaping the river so as to minimize flooding risks. “It is a long-awaited project for us, with deep analysis of the situation in the field. Experts from the country and abroad have been involved in this”, said the mayor.
Angela Sax, director of the EBRD Office in Moldova, said this project is important for the municipality of Chisinau in several aspects, including rehabilitation, but also in terms of recreation and leisure.
The project involves the expansion of the hydrographic basin, the expansion of permeable and impermeable surfaces, as well as the development of a recreational area with pedestrian and bicycle lanes, angling platforms and so on.
