After access to the waste dump in Tantareni village of Anenii Noi district was blocked, the garbage from Chisinau is taken to the Purcel mine that is situated several kilometers of the capital city. But this mine is too small to hold all the waste from Chisinau. Thus, a place for a new waste dump is to be identified with the help of the Geology Institute, the ecological bodies and the Preventive Medicine Center, deputy head of the municipal cleanup facility “Autosalubritate” Alexandru Bajura said in Monday’s meeting of the City Hall. The contract for the storage of garbage in Tantareni was to expire late last year. On December 30, the Anenii Noi District Council decided to renew it for three years, but asked signing an additional contract that will provide concessions for the residents of the village. The Chisinau administration said it is ready to grant these concessions, but the inhabitants of Tantareni did not approve of the agreement reached by the Chisinau authorities and the Anenii Noi District Council. They demand that the waste dump be covered up. The people complain that the local dump is a source of infectious diseases. About 20 villagers have protested for three consecutive days, blocking access to the landfill.
